Over the past 35 years, Cliff Barsi has launched or owned a variety of unique businesses including corporate airplane catering, gourmet farmers market, restaurants, specialty desserts, and a coffee shop chain, among others. As a chef, he has won numerous American Culinary awards.  He has served as Vice President of Operations and New Product Development for a nutritional products company where he developed a line of sports shakes and bars marketed to college and professional sports teams. In each of his professional endeavors, Chef Cliff has conceived and launched unique concepts to fill specific niches in the market, drawing upon the best resources available to bring his concepts to life.  

 As Senior Director of Food Services & Social Enterprise, Cliff Barsi brings a wealth of successful entrepreneurial experience to our ministry. In 2012, he launched Inside the Box (ITB) Catering after winning the first prize of $25,000 in a non-profit social enterprise business plan competition. After a year of catering, the first retail café location opened in downtown Tampa, followed by a second location in the Westshore business district in 2014. Both cafes and the catering business generate proceeds to fund a portion of the 1.2 million meals served annually by Metropolitan Ministries to hungry and homeless people throughout the Tampa Bay area. Additionally, ITB acts as the “hands on training” component of the Culinary Arts Program (CAP). Over the past three years, ITB CAP has trained and placed over 120 students in some of Tampa’s finest restaurants, fulfilling our mission to instill self-sufficiency to those who were once homeless.
